Barbie is My Spirit Guide in 2013

I get a lot of flack from people when they see how my eyes light up when I see a new Barbie doll in the store. It doesn’t make sense to them how a seemingly strong and independent adult woman who considers herself a feminist, can also adore a tiny plastic doll long criticised for her impossibly curvaceous proportions. Ahh, Barbie, of tiny waist and pink clothing. Barbie, of perfect smile and twinkling eyes. I guess I just can’t help it, I love the girl! With three Barbie-loving nieces who were showered this Christmas with everything from “Mermaid Barbie” to “Pet Doctor Barbie” (it’s called a veterinarian, Mattel) it’s clear that Barbie’s appeal continues to grow and I couldn’t be happier. Sure, she is impossibly beautiful and perfect and that can be slightly annoying. I rarely bake pies in short mini dresses with perfect makeup and heels like “I Can Be A Baker Barbie, ” but I’ve learned to view her as an a-typical heroine urging us to love ourselves a little more, smile a little wider, and bring a little more beauty into this world. On the surface, she might be all hard plastic and glossy hair, but Barbie’s inspirational message of becoming what you dream or envision is powerful. I will never forget the power the 1980’s era “Day to Night Barbie” had on my seven year old mind: “Wow! You can be a businesswoman by day, and paint the town red (or pink in B’s case) by night!” She could do anything and made me feel like I could, too. So, in the coming year, I will be employing the question WWBD – What Would Barbie Do – when I face a dilemma or a challenge. Perhaps a little Barbie positivity is something we all could use today, whether you like to wear pink or not!

Do Now! Visit Kringle’s Inventionasium™… Funny Hats Welcome

20121204-202841.jpg

What’s with the funny hat you ask? What in the world does it have to do with pies? Well…very little, but in the spirit of the holiday season, I wanted to promote a fantastic can’t-miss Christmas event called Kringle’s Inventionasium™ at Tower City in downtown Cleveland. The Inventionasium is an experience unlike anything families have grown accustomed to in the past. Forget about long, endless lines to see a shabby looking Santa Claus in a bad wig and beard. Those days are over! Kringle’s Inventionasium™ is a 35-minute theatrical Christmas-themed attraction that runs by reservation (goodbye lines!!) The concept of the tour is that the world’s children have been invited, by Mr. Kringle, as guest inventors, to assist in the development and testing of toys. Inside, families are guided on an interactive tour through Kringle’s inventing laboratories by exciting tour guides unlike any you have ever met before! A private visit and photo opportunity for the family with Kris Kringle conclude the tour. Visitors exit through Kringle’s Toy Shoppe™ where they can buy cool things like my hat! Check out the website here for more details and to make reservations.
Then, order a holiday treat here!

Happy Holidays Menu!

I’m not gonna lie, it would be nice to take more of a breather between the holiday cluster I like to affectionately refer to as “Hallothanksmaseve.” Before you can even put away the decorative witch’s cauldron, you’re making stuffing for an army of relatives and before you can digest the turkey, you’re getting bombarded 24/7 to shop, shop, shop for the ever elusive perfect gift! So much pressure! Not to be outdone, Pie, Oh My! Is launching our very own special Happy Holidays menu with very merry treats including five new Winter Wonderland specialty pies, a selection of Mini Cheesecakes, Fantasy Fudge, and two new Cookie Bar selections! Check out the menu here. All items are available for door to door delivery in time for the holidays! So…hang those stockings with care and leave the baking to Pie, Oh My Cleveland!

Daily Pie-Making Inspiration

20121116-130716.jpg

Anyone who knows me, knows Dexter. Who is Dexter? Well, he is the wind beneath my wings, the needed laughter after a particularly rough day, the reminder to not take life too seriously! He is my dog, an 8 1/2 pound bundle of fur that brings me back to my senses with a wag of his tail and a kiss on the nose. People laugh, but I often credit little Dexter for being my inspiration to make pies in the first place! I think this is something only fellow dog and animal lovers can understand. I just thought it was important to exhale and reflect on one of my biggest supporters….not to mention Apple Pie stealers!

Exhale. You Still Have Time to Order Thansksgiving Pies!

“Ahhhh! Thanksgiving is next week and I don’t have a thing done. I am so stressed! Where are my keys? That is due, when? I have to pick you up, when? Where? ” Does this sound like you? I bet the last thing you are even thinking about is making those Thanksgiving pies. With that in mind, Pie, Oh My! is extending the order date till Thursday, November 15 at midnight. This means you have a couple more days to contact Pie, Oh My! and get those pie orders in. Pies that will be delivered to your home BEFORE Thanksgiving! Go to our pie menu and exhale!

Great Small and Big Screen Pie Moments Week 2

Waitress (2007)

This little independent romantic comedy has all the right ingredients of humor, sentimentality, and charm! Waitress was the directorial debut of indie-movie princess Adrienne Shelly, who tragically lost her life before the movie premiered. The all star cast includes Keri Russell who plays Jenna, a depressed waitress working at Joe’s Pie Diner and stuck in an abusive marriage; Cheryl Hines and Adrienne Shelly, her hilarious fellow waitresses; Nathan Fillion as her lovelorn ObGyn; and Andy Griffith (in his last film role) as Joe. The biggest character throughout the film though is Jenna’s famous pies, all inspired by her complicated and messy life. By the end of the movie, you will be wishing for a slice of I Hate My Husband Pie or Fallin’ In Love Chocolate Mousse Pie!
